Born to parents who had left the Portuguese dictatorship, Anne Catherine Nobre grew up with the legacy of those who had to reinvent themselves elsewhere. Dyslexic, she developed from an early age a way of learning rooted in listening, observation, and the image. An early family experience also instilled in her an acute awareness of time and fragility — one that today suffuses the way she sees.

Her path has taken shape outside any linear trajectory. Trained in music and sound production (radio, post-production, sound design), she toured with the duo Wekeed following the success of Wild Child in 2013, performing across Europe and as far as Indonesia. She went on to work in film production, in carpentry in Canada, and as an assistant set decorator on audiovisual productions, before leading several entrepreneurial and independent ventures that consolidated her autonomy and gave her the means to develop her practice.

Photography, which had for a time remained in the background, reasserted itself with intensity from 2021 onward. Driven by the creative dialogue of looking alongside another, it became, through her travels, an intense practice once again. This return crystallized in 2023 with the acquisition of the Leica she had coveted for twenty years — marking the beginning of a more personal inquiry, in which she learned no longer simply to capture the moment, but to construct it.

Between 2024 and 2025, over an extended period spent in Asia, Anne Catherine developed Nomophobia, a photographic work devoted to a gesture that has become universal — one through which we can read the contemporary mutations of attention, posture, presence, and our way of being in the world.
